A derelict hospital in California has been redesigned into an art gallery.
The abandoned hospital has been revived to become an art gallery.
The
art gallery is part of a two month long immersive exhibition. The
site-specific exhibition featuring the works of more than eighty
different artists is named 'Human Condition'.
Famous photographer Robert Mapplethorpe and conceptual artist Jenny Holzer are among the numerous artists whose works will be exhibited.
The
new art gallery situated in West Adams, Los Angeles, California, used
to be the 40,000 square foot Los Angeles Metropolitan Medical Centre.
It was opened in 1971, however it was closed down in 2013, as a result of economic decline in the area.
The
building now has a variety of artwork hanging from its rooms. The
surgery theatres, maternity wards and psychiatric unit in the
dilapidated building all sport artwork on their walls.
The sculptures and paintings that are part of the exhibition will be open for public viewing till November 30, 2016.
According to John Wolf,
the curator,”Human Condition explores humanity in its rawest form, in a
space that houses humans in their most vulnerable states."
The exhibit seeks to put the history of the hospital into new context while examining and exploring the meaning of being human.
