Three serving police officers arrested for robbing some Chinese nationals say they pretended to be searching for drugs.
Three police officers, ave been arrested alongside other gang members for allegedly robbing some Chinese in their homes in the Shomolu area of Lagos State.
Guardian reports that the officers, Sergeants Peter Owochi and Chigno Ada, and Corporal Francis Onu,
who are attached to the Mopol 43 of the Bauchi State Police Command but
were in Delta State on a special duty, were arrested by the Lagos State
Police Command.
They were said to have left their
duty posts to raid the homes of the Chinese nationals where they stole
N700,000 and $770 in cash and other valuable items including laptops,
iPads, phones, jewelry, and electronics.
While
confessing to the crime, Sergeant Owochi said they were invited by one
of the gang members to participate in the crime and that they told their
victims they were looking for drugs.
"We came to Lagos on the invitation of one of our members, who gave us details of a Chinese national who resides in Shomolu.
We stormed his house with a forged search warrant, alleging that he was into drug trafficking and arms racketeering.
The last incident that led to our arrest, we stole N700, 000, $770, phones iPads, jewelry and laptops.
We
were arrested through one of the phones stolen. A member actually sold
the phone to a neighbour without knowing that it could be tracked."
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Dolapo Badmos has confirmed the arrest of the criminal officers, adding that they will soon be charged to court after an orderly room trial.
