The home of Mukhtar Sahabi, which is located along Zango Road in Tudun Wada, was set ablaze on Wednesday.
Youths in Kaduna State have burnt down the home of a leader of the Shiite Islamic sect, reports say.
The home of Mukhtar Sahabi, which is located along Zango Road in Tudun Wada, was set ablaze on Wednesday, October 12, Premium Times reports.
“I
was wondering what was going on this morning when I saw youth in
hundreds setting the house on fire. Before the security operatives could
come all of them had gone,” a witness said.
“For
me I will never support violence but Sahabi’s house here is risky for
us. Every evening they gather at his house singing hate songs against
the governor and Buhari and even none Shiite people,” a resident of the area said.
The Kaduna state government recently outlawed the Shiite sect and placed a ban on its activities.
The sect made headlines in December due to a face-off with the Nigerian Army which led to the capture of its leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
El-Zakzaky is still in custody.
