The break follows the club's sixth place finish in the just-concluded Nigeria Professional Football League's season
The management of Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure on Tuesday announced a two-week break for the players and officials of the club.
The Chairman of the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA), Ola Mafo, made the announcement while addressing the club’s players and officials in Akure.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the break followed the conclusion of the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
Mafo also expressed satisfaction with the performance of the club’s technical crew led by Solomon Ogbeide, who was the Technical Adviser.
“We
have every cause to thank God, Gov. Olusegun Mimiko and all
football-loving people of the state. Even though we could not achieve
our aims, the season was not a failure.
“We were so close, and lots of lessons were learnt, and we hope to build on all the positives ahead of the new season.
“The technical crew did well and we are determined to keep our top players,” he said.
Speaking also at the occasion, Ogbeide and Head Coach Kayode Olujohungbe, while appreciating the club management for its support, thanked the players for their efforts and commitment.
NAN reports that Sunshine Stars placed sixth on the league’s final table with 53 points, four points behind third-placed Wikki Tourists who beat them 2-0 on Sunday
